Ten of Hearts | Lisa Kazer

For nearly 25 years, I have had the good fortune of developing and working in a  variety of mediums including illustration, textiles, sculpture and painting,  I maintain a home studio in Portland, Oregon where I work full-time as an artist.

Illustration – My illustrations reflect a lifetime of interest in drawing and storytelling.  I use a combination of images taken from my sketchbooks that I cut out and collage onto a heavy cotton pulp papers.  Additional drawing, watercolor, ink and a narrative title complete the process.

Illustrations are available as prints and cards.  Archival inks and heavyweight matte archival paper are used for the prints which I do myself.  Cards are printed on recycled paper with soy inks.  All packaging materials are either biodegradable or 100% recycled.  Currently I do not sell my originals.  Please contact me if you are interested in commissioning an illustration.

Textiles – I work primarily in wet-method felt-making and fabric constructions.  All piece and applique work is hand stitched.  My textile work is available for private and public commissions.

Sculpture – My sculptural work is comprised of mixed media materials and is narrative in nature.  I combine found objects, woodcarving, hand-sewn felt and cloth over linen thread-bound armatures encased in layers of natural beeswax.

Painting –  I most often work in acrylics on birch wood panels with beeswax.  I like to paint narrative-driven scenarios.

Watercolor on Paper
8 1/2″ x 11″
Purchased 2010

Purchased at Auction – Art in Hand – The Portland Project where fifty-four Portland area artists were challenged to transform an ordinary deck of playing cards into a showcase of the extraordinary and diverse artistic talent in our community. Each artist took their assigned playing card, re-imagining it in their own unique style.  The result is an amazing, fully playable deck of cards … an art gallery you can hold in your hand.  The original artwork used to create the Portland Project Deck was sold through auction with 90% of the proceeds of each sale going directly to one of over 25 non-profits selected by the artists.  The Six of Hearts benefited P:ear, an organization created to build positive relationships with homeless and transitional youth, ages 15 to 24, through education, art and recreation to affirm personal worth and create more meaningful and healthier lives.
